Top-ranked Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.

Aryna Sabalenka celebrating a point
Aryna Sabalenka concluded the season with an outstanding twenty-three to three Grand Slam win-loss record.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.

The 27-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.

A Year of Consistency

Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.

In July, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.

She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.

On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a new level".

Additional WTA Award Honorees

  • Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
  • Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
  • Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
  • Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
