Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
