A Heap of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season provide a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid yelling at family members. Hopefully you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items surfaced during the festive period, and if you missed a few, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it still retained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Season Two

Shortly after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
